Unlike the original movie, the 2014 Annie emphasizes material success over familial love.

Good point about Annie's real needs and desires. She's already on top of the world, frankly, by the time she first gets to Warbucks's place. He needs her, not vice versa.

(When it comes to the earlier versions, I prefer the Victor Garber film. It's paced much better than the one with Albert Finney and Carol Burnett.)

Thanks for your thoughts, Tim. I love the way you put it: Daddy Warbucks really is the one in need of saving at a deeper level, and that's a glorious point in my opinion.

Now you have me wanting to go rewatch the Garber version. I'm sure I saw it ("Annie" has always been one of my favorite musicals), but you know how it is: the version you grow up with is the one you think of first.
