On 22, A Million, Bon Iver's new sound reflects a spiritual truth: change is a necessary progression forward.
Pretty amazing album really. To be honest, I didn't really care much for Bon Iver before this album, although there were certain selections I liked. This album is different though. Deeper and more introspective.#29 Stafford Apts is from another world, aswell as #8 circle and 00000 Million. Really Soulful.
It's interesting that you see the album as leading you toward God. Justin Vernon seems to have produced this album after much introspection and struggling with deep questions of theology. From lyrics on 22, A Million it seems he does not believe in a higher power.
His latest album has numerous religious references but I don't believe that means he himself is a Christian
To quote Heavenly Father: "Heavenly father/ Is all that he offers/ A safety in the end?"
And the just released 33 God: "I know so well that this is all there is".
The symbolism in the lyric video you have posted here are all occult symbols. The theme is present throughout the album's artwork, as well as references in the lyrics to the occult.
