Does Pinterest promote consumerism or community?

Pretending leads to artificial life, being real leads to authentic living. Our choice.

As anything in life also Pinterest can be used for either authentic or artificial living.

Pinterest can promote consumerism and artificial living. But it can also be used for good, too. I've seen f.e. teachers collecting and sharing ideas. I personally use Pinterest to do ministry. So let's not throw the baby with the bath water. Authentic living is possible in social media, too. Our choice.

I agree with Mari-Anna. Like any social media tool, Pinterest can be used for many purposes. My boards include favorite books I've read, places I plan to visit on an upcoming trip, inspirational people, favorite articles I've forwarded to friends, and wise quotes I want to remember. I like being inspired by what my friends post, and especially love it when my college-aged daughter re-pins some wise quote I post. I just hope that as Pinterest gets more popular, it stays as classy as it has been. I'm starting to see slightly more sketchy stuff sneak in when I'm seeing pins from "everyone" and it's frustrating.

Pinterest like many other social sites can be a wonderland of thoughts and ideas, however it can still be an opportunity for the Church as well...

With that said after reading what Christians had to say I decided to create Godinterest.com the hope is to keep the site focused in an area of life that people have in common as well as their day to day, "stuff" as well

Thanks so much for your article it was one of my inspirations.
