the new Paul Simon album has changed the way I think of my music performance ministry as well as inspired two songs from me...the words of the songs touch off some deep thoughts in me...very inspiring

I wish that more people would consider that "secular" music can contribute to the journey of faith, just as much as Christian music can.  We should be quick to listen and slow to speak, even when it comes to music.  I'm not saying that all secular music is beneficial and edifying.  But, neither is all Christian music, to be honest.

I hate to admit this, but I'm behind on the Mumford & Sunds bandwagon.  But, this post really makes me want to go out and buy that album.  For now, I'm listening in on Pandora.

Thanks for your thoughtful consideration of these artists.  You've given me some food for thought.

Loved Paul Simon ( & Garfunkel) records for many years, this makes me want to go out & get this latest . Just waiting for Bob Dylan to come back into the fold & bless us with more Jesus affirming music!

In the hip/hop pop world its worth looking at 'show me something' by Jay-Z's newest and growingly popular artist J.Cole, while his songs do have swearing and other images they carry something else as well, especially 'show me something'

Interesting observations. You gave me a blog idea that's worth looking into... music artists who've converted and done an about face from promoting ungodliness to singing about their faith! Great post.

I'm a little behind reading and posting on this topic, but I would agree with Keri on it.  There is much music of worth in both the secular and Christian fields, there is also much garbage.  I feel like too many Christians are checking their brains at the door!  Just because something has a Christian message does not automatically make it artistically excellent....and isn't that what we should be striving for?  If we're called to do all things as unto the Lord,  shouldn't we be striving for excellece in method and message?
