With the iPhone 7 and its new AirPods, Apple once again asks us to trust in it above all else.
I think Apple just wants to sell products, and is interested in more grandiose themes only to the extent Apple thinks that converts to selling more products.
Of course, Apple will attempt to convince consumers that it is making decisions by "having the courage to do this or that," or as a part of some greater vision, but convincing consumers it has those motivations happens to help sell its products.
