Here at Think Christian’s Chicago-area office, we’ve been fortunate to host a simulcast of Calvin College’s January Series of lectures, including Monday’s talk by Kevin Schut on video games. For those who weren’t able to join us, video of the presentation is below.
Schut is associate professor and chair of the department of media and communication at Trinity Western University and author of Of Games & God, which we wrote about here. In his talk, he discussed violence in games and their addictive qualities – two of the most common concerns with the medium – as well as his belief, leaning on C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, that God created us for play.
“Escape can actually be a very right thing,” Schut said.
The next January Series talk TC will simulcast takes place Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 11:30 a.m. CST. The topic is climate change and the presenter is meteorologist Paul Douglas. If you'd like to attend, our offices are at 6555 West College Drive, Palos Heights, Ill. For future January Series talks we’ll be hosting, keep an eye on our Facebook page.
