Obama’s Bibles

I share you sentiments, having just secured my recently passed mother's Bible. To see her notes and her prayers makes me pay attention.

But pondering how the president reads his Bible is presumptive. Do you really think he does read it? He shows zero ability to engage his "faith" with his politics. His only use of biblical allegory or analogy has been to condemn the rich, squeezing more taxes out of them. He is truly, a secular president.

His disdain and outright hostility to those of any Christian faith is quite obvious.

I don't need my President to share my faith -- but don't play games with titles and names, claiming to be something you are not.

I don't care which Bible he swears to God upon. I just want him to start reading one of them.

Pondering how he *doesn't* read them seems equally presumptive. We don't know his heart, his history of bible study and education, the demands placed on him by the job, or how the three come together to create his relationship to Christ in light of his work.

I suppose we could measure whether or not his politics line up with the political right, which is seen by some as the "religious" part of our political spectrum, but then that would be truly a secular metric.

"His only use of biblical allegory or analogy has been to condemn the rich, squeezing more taxes out of them."

Putting aside the fact that the rich are having no more taxes "squeezed" out of them under President Obama than they were during the Clinton administration—not exactly regarded as a bad time to be rich—at least you acknowledge that condemnation of the rich is Biblical.

"His disdain and outright hostility to those of any Christian faith is quite obvious."

It is? I'm a person of Christian faith, and I've never felt even the slightest bit disdained by President Obama. Yesterday's inauguration had no shortage of Christian faith on display from the dais, which seems rather incompatible with someone filled with disdain and hostility toward "those of any Christian faith." Would you care to provide examples of this so-called "disdain"?
