The Civil Wars is darker, more desperate, more brutal and more spiritual than Joy Williams' and John Paul White's debut as a duo.

Great Review. I loved their debut, and was fortunate to see them in concert. It was amazing to see their career rise so quickly and now to deal with the end. Far too many of us knows a bit of that pain. It may take years......but something tells me that there may be a resurrection chapter to this southern gothic tale before all is said and done.

Kinda reminds you of a 16 Horsepower/Wovenhand record, doesn't it?

Wow JJT! What an intense heartfelt description of The Civil Wars disc!
Painting a portrait of a black & white painting of a romantic but haunted cabin haunted being destroyed in a fire, wow sounds like a horror flick plot rather than a description of a song!
Must be from hanging out at Cornerstone since you were 13! All the artistry must have rubbed off on you! I've never before in my 56 years on the planet seen such an incredibly picturesque review of a musical presentation!
I am truly amazed and astonished!

It has inflamed me to pull out a book of matches and rekindle my childhood fascination with fire by torching this musical offering by Civil Wars into my melting ears!
