Good food for thought. The point about habitat is a great one. There's no way to care for or love just part of creation. The only way to care for one particular species, or one particular individual, or one particular piece of land is by caring for the whole.
I can see using this science to help an existing species survive because humankind's impact on the planet is probably a factor in its extinction. Prehistoric species...not so much. Reminds me of a line from Jurassic Park, the movie you referenced at the beginning of the article: "your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."
