With her comic take on church life, the Vicar of Dibley co-star offered solace in my early days of ministry.
One of my favourite films is "Nottinghill" in which Emma Chambers played the part of Honey, Hugh Grant's rather offbeat sister. The whole cast was stellar, but I loved Honey especially. I also remember Emma in "The Vicar of Dibbley" and she was such a lovable loony in that show too, that you couldn't help but think being a vicar had to be made so much better with her around to lighten the often heavy load of a minister. I too, am a pastor, in a Baptist church which isn't all that common either, and a lay pastor at that which makes me feel a bit less confidant in my role. Mind you, my husband and I have been co-pastoring in our church for almost twenty years now, so you'd think I would be past that. I just want to say that I find your blog very engrossing and look forward to reading it whenever it appears in my e-mail. Thank you for your Christian insights into contemporary media.
I hadn’t heard this yet. Very sad. I found the Vicar of Dibley before I became a minister and it’s been the source of both humor and solace. RIP Emma. I’m sure you’re making the angels laugh now!
